Fire Department Administration
Derrell Jones, Fire Chief

Executive leadership, management, and strategic planning for the fire department are the responsibilities of the Fire Chief. The Office of the Fire Chief is supported by one secretary. 
The Fire Chief, through his designees, manages the operation and administration of the MFD and is responsible for carrying out the following functions:

  • Fire fighting and rescue work in order to save lives and property from fires and other emergencies and hazardous situations.
  • Training, equipping, maintaining, and supervising fire fighters, staff, and support personnel.
  • Monitoring the construction and occupancy standards of buildings within the city for the purpose of fire prevention and life safety.
  • Providing educational programs related to fire prevention and life safety.
  • Performing other duties as may be required by law.

Fire Operations Division

The Muskogee Fire Department provides 24 hour response for emergencies. These emergencies can include fire suppression, vehicle collisions, explosions, medical emergencies, hazardous materials events, and other life threatening situations. The Department also supports these efforts with a fire prevention and public education program, as well as on-going training for all department members. 

Under the supervision of an Assistant Chief, on-shift personnel respond to fires and other emergencies from six fire stations located throughout Muskogee. Firefighting efforts are a key component of the Department's emergency response and focus for service to the community. 

Training Division

The mission of the Training Division is to train to standards that will ensure safety and the highest performance of all personnel within the organization, and to provide a quality learning environment in order to enhance the highest degree of service to the community. 

The Training Division’s primary focus is to develop the intellectual and physical competencies of each fire department member so that each member can expand their contributions to the fire service and the community. 

We will incorporate the best instructional and training methods to our members by utilizing current fire service data, performance standards, and modern technology. 

Fire Prevention Division

The Fire Prevention Division of the Muskogee Fire Department, commonly referred to as the Fire Marshal’s Office, utilizes risk assessment, code enforcement, plans review, fire investigation, and public education efforts to help prevent fires and assure fire and life safety for people who live, work and visit in Muskogee. 

Special Operation Officer /CBRNE chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, & explosive

Lewis Brock, Special Operations Officer

The Special Operations Officer is in charge of all Hazardous Materials Operations, the Haz-Mat Team, and training. The Muskogee Fire Department is part of the Oklahoma Emergency Response System and may respond anywhere in the state.

The Special Operations Officer also has the responsibility of other heavy rescue training.

Other types of critical services provided by the Mechanic Shop include specialty design and fabrication of custom accessories for fire fighter equipment, apparatus and annual pump testing, coordination for aerial ladder testing, and ground ladder testing for fire fighting apparatus.
